Easter Week: Wednesday

Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Read: Luke 21:37 - 22:1-6

All of the disciples who chose to follow Jesus had to make great sacrifices. They had to leave their families and careers in order to draw close to Jesus and learn from Him. With that level of dedication, you might wonder how any of them could betray Him.

As the Pharisees recoiled in their private meetings, Satan took the opportunity to enter into the only disciple that he could influence and turn against Jesus. Judas didn’t act alone. He found support in the religious leaders. They had to work in the shadows because they knew in their hearts that what they were doing was wrong. Whatever justifications they made for why they needed to silence Jesus, they had crossed a line that revealed their true nature.

Judas would eventually regret his decision. He would try to return the money, but it would be too late for him. Judas would then go out and take his own life. It’s a tragedy, not only because he betrayed our savior, but because he couldn’t find forgiveness in the One who called him.

Pray today with intercession for those who are lost.
